Padang Ipoh

Not far away from Ipoh Railway Station is a well kept field surrounded by many historic buildings. The field is known as "padang" by the locals.

During the colonial time, British men were seen on this field, playing cricket and some were seen heading back to the exclusive Ipoh Royal Club adjacent to the field, where the rules of "white men only" applies.

Today, it is a playground for the rich and poor, brown or white. Padang Ipoh is a testimony of a common playing field that has withstood the test of time and prejudice.

Citizens from all walks of life congregate at the padang for sporting activities such as rugby, football or jog across the beautiful landscape.

The St Michael Institution opposite is a wonderful landmark.. the jogging track.. but one sad thing is, the trees on one side were all chopped down.. that is the most unfortunate thing that happened to IPOH padang..
