Grand Margherita Hotel Post Pandemic

Grand Margherita Hotel is one of my favourite hotel while staying in Kuching. I haven't stay in this hotel for many years now. It was also serve as one of the quarantine hotels for travellers coming to Sarawak during the pandemic.

Little has change to their superior king room. I checked in at 7pm and the towel was unavailable. This had been notified to me by the reception. However, the towels were delivered by housekeeping in less than 15 minutes.

The working chair also shows sign of wear and tear as it was sinking gradually when seated. The window here is still very much sound proof and I was not perturbed by the outside noise.

There is no more bottled water in the room. Instead guest can get filtered water from the water dispenser at the corridor.

The breakfast variety has been reduced compare to my last stay here many years ago. I should skip the breakfast option in my future stay here.

The hotel still offer a breathtaking view of city. This hotel also serves Sarawak Sling which I still haven't give it a try yet.

GoldenBay Hotel Bintulu

There are quite a number of new hotels in Bintulu since my last visit there in 2014. After searching for a hotel which has a family room, I ended up with GoldenBay Hotel.

Located at Jalan Tun Razak, the hotel is sandwiched between Marine Department Bintulu Branch office and Income and Inland Revenue Board Bintulu office.

It is best to have their own transport while staying here as there are hardly any commercial areas within walking distance. Limited car park areas are available in front and the basement of the hotel. If those areas are full, the only option is at the rear open area of the hotel.

Family suite consists of a bedroom and living area. The room rate is RM 464 including tax. The family suite I got is spacious. The bedroom has 3 beds which could easily accommodate 4 person. Both the bedroom and living area is cooled by 2 units of split unit air conditioner.

Room is not cleaned on the daily basis. I guess this is almost a norm for most hotel post MCO.

Breakfast voucher is for 2 person only although my expectation the hotel could have given at least 4 vouchers for those who is staying in Family Suite. The morning breakfast buffet here is average with not much variety.

There is a small kid pool on the top floor. I did not notice any children took a dip at the pool in my 2 days stay here.

The hotel don't exactly have the best surrounding view due to its location. However, I still find its location quite strategic as it is just a short drive to Tanjung Batu and the old town.

There is no bottled water in the room. Water dispenser is readily available at the corridor.

Hua Kee Seafood & Cafe, Selangau

Selangau is a small town which is mainly a stopover for those on the way to Mukah, Bintulu or Sibu. Been a famous stopover, the town has many restaurants. I was introduced by a friend to Hua Kee Seafood & Cafe which serve decent food.

This place is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I been told this is also a place for the locals to wind down at night with beers.

In term of foods, there aren't much different to those found in Sibu with the exception of wild boar.

These are the other foods we ordered. The bill added up to RM64 for a portion for 3 person. For someone who is used to Sibu restaurants, the portion here is considered small. In term of taste, the food here is comparable to those in Sibu.
