Adieu Putrajaya

It's time to bid adieu to what I regard as my second home, Putrajaya. I first came here on 1st February 2010 and life was hard back then. If it wasn't for 2 of my colleagues, I would have not been able to settle down back then.

I been working at this "red brick" building for more than a decade. It is consider one of the oldest office building in Putrajaya. 

Since it is an old building, there is nothing fancy about on its internal design. With proper upkeeping, the building here can remain impeccable in years to come. 

I would probably miss the cafeteria too. It is notorious for making our clothes smelly from the food preparation due to poor indoor ventilation.

This is my last workstation here. Ever since I work here I had changed 9 workstation due to various reasons.  

Farewell to My Workstation

Today is the last day I will be working from my current workstation as I will be transfer to another division tomorrow. In fact, I been changing 3 workstations for the last 2 and the half years before landing to the current one which I had occupied roughly for about 7 months.

 

When I moved into this workstation early this year, everything is brand new. Its strategic location offers better privacy compare to other workstations. I spent more time here than at home, coming back here occasionally on weekend to work. Hence, It is practically my second home.

 

I am saddened that I have to part with this workstation as I had put a lot of effort to make it a better place to work. I always believe in a conducive workstation where works can be carried out in a more efficient and organized manner.

 

I always make ensure this part of the table is always clear so my visitors can have a comfortable discussion with me. Sometime I had my lunch at this table too.

 

I arrange my computer at this tight spot in order to create more room to the other parts of my workstation so that essential documents are within easy reach of my arm.

This is the part where I do my other stuffs when not staring at the computer screen. The only thing I dislike here is the noisy printer's cooling fan which is situated just beside the table.

 

This cupboard is where I kept my personal belongings while the steel cabinets are for confidential documents.

Well, I will surely miss this spot. I have seen my future workstation and it is a mess and I start to wonder how I can settle down properly starting from tomorrow.

Department's Examination

This week has been a hectic week for me as I have to co-ordinate the guidance course and the Department's course for my officers.

The guidance course was held for 2 days to give some direction to the officers as well as examination tips for the candidates.

By the way, we were well fed during the whole duration with 5-6 courses of meal in one day.

After the course, comes the most stressful moment for the candidates; examination time.

All the examination question papers were sealed. I was part of the team that prepare these questions and I basically knew what will be asked and the answers as well.

The examination was quite a stressful time for my part too as my team need to supervise 250++ of my officers with some of them lack of discipline and did not adhere to the standard examination procedures.

I was a bit disappointed as a higher ranking officer where I consider ourselves as an elite force but most of them do not act like one.

During my time here, I observe our female officers are more serious and well prepared for the examination compare to our male officers. The female tend to be more attentive during the guidance course and make full use of the allocated time in the exam.

One of our officer was warded due to dengue fever on the second day of the examination but he was determine to take the exam. Hence, we need to send an officer to supervise his examination from the hospital.

After they complete their paper, the answer will be collected, packed, sealed and secured in our head office.

This has been quite an experience for me as my section has to plan, budget, arrange and co-ordinate this major project for the past 4 months ago. I just hope our hard effort will not go down to the drain and the officers passed their papers as I will be damned if they don't

Late Night in Office

Yesterday I had to stay back with my colleagues at the office to get our work done (It's Friday evening). Our section was tasked to get the Department's exam paper ready by next week.

I have to admit it was a donkey-work for us but an order is an order. We had to carry out this task outside office hour due to the confidentiality of the document. It would be a disaster if the questions leaked out to the candidates.

We had some light moments in between to ease ourselves from the tension. We don't even have the opportunity to have our dinner.

We got our job done by 9pm and the teamwork between my colleagues are just wonderful. I hope we will manage to get through more challenges which lie ahead of us

Crawler Crane Training Course

Last week, I was attending a 5 days crawler crane course in Subang area. Crawler crane is a type of crane which can carry load and run on its crawler track.

This is our training room in Subang. It is kind of small but comfortable. This is where we learn the theory of the crawler crane parts, non destructive testing, slinging & rigging techniques and reading load chart.

When we got our assignments, we tend to break up and discuss among our team mates. Some even resort to having discussion on the floor for more privacy.

The NDT practical and demonstration been carried out.

On the 4th day, we visited Tat Hong Plant in Shah Alam to have our hand on experience with the actual crawler crane .

There are many type of models of crawler crane inside this office. Some of the Transformers fan might mistaken them as the Constructicons.

This is our group photo at the plant. It was a mixture of old timer and green horn like myself during the duration of this course and I am glad to be given the opportunity to mingle with them as I was able to gain invaluable knowledge based on their vast experience.

Everyone was having a good laugh at this mini crawler crane as we thought initially we were suppose to operate with it.

This is the biggest crawler crane here, the DEMAG CC2800. The old timer once again did the inspection and pass on their vast knowledge to us.

Our assessment here at the plant was to maneuvre the load in the L shaped track using the crawler crane. The purpose is to give us the idea of how difficult it is to really operate a crane.

On our final day, we had to sit for a 2 hours (3 papers) written assessment and what a relief to all the delegates after finishing the papers.

At the end of the day, everyone was rewarded with certificate of competency to inspect crawler crane and as an assessor to crawler crane operator
