Ipoh is blessed with a few magnificent colonial buildings and Ipoh Town Hall is one of them. The building is situated in between the Birch Memorial Tower and the train station.
Ipoh Town Hall was designed by a famous government architect, A.B. Hubback. The magnificent building begun its construction in 1914 and completed in 1916.
The building design is based on Victorian Neo-Renaissance architecture, featuring Greek and Roman elements on the columns. Currently, major restoration work is being carried out at rear part of the building
The hall has been housing a few government agencies since then. In 1928, the eastern part was used as the Post and Telegraphs Office. In 1948, the building was used as Ipoh's District Police Headquarters. Since 1962, the building was used as the Public Auditorium. It would have been nice if I was able to see how it looks like from the inside.

There are some heavy work ongoing at the back portion but I am not aware of any story. Mind to share?

we went to Ipoh Railway to take photos then happened to see this admin building too.. (it's an admin building now right?) Did u take pic of that Ipoh tree?

Ipoh really got a lot of historical buildings. Like the design of it. The clock tower in the previous post make me think of the movie 'DaVinci Code'.

The Town Hall has the same Architect with the Train Station right? The completion date almost the same too...
hmmm..Ipoh..benn there once..and nothing much to see leh..just very small town and many shopslot and building... =_="

Robo: The Ipoh train station was also designed by the same architect of the town hall. The train station was completed a year after the town hall.
