Ipoh railway station is dubbed as the Taj Mahal of Ipoh for its architecture grandeur. I would rate this rail station as one of the most beautiful station in Malaysia, second only to the Kuala Lumpur Old Railway Station.
The railway station used to be a major transportation hub for the tin mining industry in the early 20th century.
This station was designed by the same architect who created the adjacent Ipoh Town Hall, A.B. Hubback. The station was completed in 1917.
The station boasts an impressive British Raj Mogul style with Moorish inspired domes and turrets.
The second floor and part of the building is occupied by the Majestic Station Hotel.
Landscaped park with water fountains and walking path is just in front of the station.
The station is also a favourite venue for the soon to wed couples to capture their wedding shots.
The interior of the station had been refurbished without compromising its original design and architecture. This waiting area is air conditioned, spacious and comfortable.
There is no need to queue when purchasing the ticket. One just need to take a number at a machine and wait for their turns.
There was a mini exhibition inside the station during my visit here last month which showcase the obsolete tools and equipment used by the station staffs around 1950s to 1980s
The rail track concourse also has a new shelter been installed to ensure passengers remain dry in the event of heavy rain.

Ipoh is really a historical town. Nice post for the rail way station.
When I traveled by train many years ago, I stopped at the Ipoh station. But I didn't walk out and look at the exterior.
