The rubber tree replica stood elegantly in the heart of Betong town to commemorate the town as the main rubber producer in Sarawak once upon a time. The appearance of the tree which seems to be chopped into half and trimmed which represent the old history of the town itself

It is suggested that Betong and Rubber have a synonymous name, RUBBER IS LUCK.

The replica was completed in September 1996.

There is a new stem growing from the trimmed tree to symbolize the new spirit and will power of the people of Betong to bring the town to a new height. The new stem represent the New Betong.

The paintings on the four corners around the base column represent the daily traditional economic activities and the local product which had spur the development to the surrounding Betong

Interesting..
First thing that came to my mind when I saw the first pic was Statue of Liberty.
In Kuala Kangsar where I stay now, there is the 1st rubber tree in Malaysia. Big and old.
