India Street , Kuching

The historic India Street is worth a visit for traveler visiting Kuching. It is located within walking distance within Kuching city.

This arch marks the entrance of India Street

India Street got its name due the fact it used to be occupied by Indian shops during the colonial period

However, a stroll down the street will suggest otherwise as Malay, Indian and Chinese shops now occupied the street. The shops here sell all sort of stuffs such as clothes, jewellery, food and etc.

The street had been closed to vehicular traffic and converted to pedestrian mall in 1992.

Another interesting landmark while strolling India Street is the Indian Mosque Lane

This white arch in the middle of the India Street indicate the entrance of historic small lane. The small passageway act as a short cut from India Street to Gambier Street (the old wet market).

The passageway is originally built as access to Indian Mosque (shown above) which is located between India Street and Gambier Street
