Gambier Street Old Wet Market

Gambier Street Old Wet Market used to be a bustling place for the Kuching folks to source fresh vegetables, fruits and meat. This row of old market had been around since the colonial time. The old market is completed evacuated now and cordoned by the authority. The structures of the markets are deemed unsafe by the authority.

With the plans to extend the existing Kuching Waterfront, the traders at the old market have been mainly shifted to Stutong Market. I notice the market was systematically divided to different sections such as poultry, meat, vegetables and etc.

The sight of its interior is an eye sore. Some of the stone slabs had broke and fell apart from its support. The roof structure also looks like it will collapse at any time. All this structures will be torn down in the near future and I am glad I am able to visit here one last time to capture a few photos for future reference.
