The historic India Street is worth a visit for traveler visiting Kuching. It is located within walking distance within Kuching city.
India Street got its name due the fact it used to be occupied by Indian shops during the colonial period
However, a stroll down the street will suggest otherwise as Malay, Indian and Chinese shops now occupied the street. The shops here sell all sort of stuffs such as clothes, jewellery, food and etc.
The street had been closed to vehicular traffic and converted to pedestrian mall in 1992.
Another interesting landmark while strolling India Street is the Indian Mosque Lane
This white arch in the middle of the India Street indicate the entrance of historic small lane. The small passageway act as a short cut from India Street to Gambier Street (the old wet market).
Inside the Indian Mosque Lane. The passageway had been restored to its original state since early1970s
The passageway is originally built as access to Indian Mosque (shown above) which is located between India Street and Gambier Street

oh-----this one is very organized and clean and less crowded---- a great contrast to the one in Singapore I guess----keke
yah, agree with pusang-gala, this india street is very nice.
Hi I think I remember vaguely India Street. If i'm not mistaken, it's near the small bus station - can't remember the name of the place. I remember the dark green bus that I used to take to Penrissen (my friend's house) and to Serian/Sri Aman where my school's located.
I wonder if that has changed.
Interesting place. May drop by here if I visit Kuching in future : )
it is one of the places in Kch where history is seen.... i mean old world charm.. in other places, the modern buildings they look like any other place in the world.
yeah i agree with bengbeng, its a must go place in sarawak as we don't have many indians in sarawak. i love the smell of spices as i stroll down the india stree. and oh ya, the clothes are really cheap.
