Merlion Park

At the northern end of One Fullerton, along the Boat Quay is the Merlion Park. One will come across this mini Merlion statue first.

The upcoming Singapore F1 Grand Prix track will also pass through the Merlion Park

The Merlion Statue anchoring it, the rather kitschy half fish, half lion creature that has been adopted as the city's tourism mascot.

The statue's mouth is pumping what I assume to be sea water out of it and one can expect to feel the water drizzle from viewing platform if the wind is strong. Hence, one might a bit wet here.

The Merlion was inspired by the creature that Prince Sang Nila Utama saw when he arrived in Temasek in the 13th century. Believing it to be a singa (lion), he renamed Temasek, Singapura (Lion City)

At the Merlion Park, one can have a stunning view of the Marina Bay and the Singapore Flyer can be seen from here.

At the park, there is also a poem by Edwin Thumboo dedicating the poem to Maurice Baker.

The Merlion Park is actually not as far as potrayed in the map. We walked from Chinatown, along New Bridge Road, then take a right hand turn into Boat Quay. Just walk all the way down the Boat Quay and one will reach the Merlion Park. The whole journey from Chinatown took roughly 30 minutes. However, for those who are lazy to walk, the nearest MRT station is Raffles Place
