Just opposite the Central is Clarke Quay. Cross the Singapore River via Read bridge or Coleman Bridge to reach Clarke Quay.
Bounded by Tan Tye Place and Canning Lane are five buildings comprising 60 warehouses and shop houses, restored to their original 19th century style and now occupied by retail outlets, bars and restaurants.
Clarke Quay's attractions are more varied than Boat Quay's and at night, a festive atmosphere prevails when cold breezes provide ideal conditions for the riverfront wining and dining. On Sundays, Clarke Quay becomes the venue for a flea market
Thrill seekers should check out Clarke Quay's G-Max reverse bungy (the one with 3 spires) which propels you 60 metres into the air
Also along Hill Street, near Coleman Bridge and Clarke Quay is the MITA Building which formerly housed the Old Hill Street Police station. The more delicate features of this classical Renaissance style building with horseshoe arches are rather overwhelmed by its startling multi coloured shutters. There are 911 altogether but experts agree that it is one of the city's premier examples of British colonial architecture.
Built in 1934, the building was once occupied by the Japanese army during World War II. It re-opened in 2000 after undergoing extensive restoration and today houses the offices of the Ministry of Information and the Arts (MITA), the National Arts Council and the National Heritage Board. There are a number of interesting art galleries at the ARTrium courtyard on the ground level
