The only historical site left by the British administration in Kanowit should be Fort Emma. It is located on a small hill overlooking the Kanowit River and the town.
Fort Emma was built by Rajah James Brooke in 1859. It was named after Emma Brooke, sister of Rajah Charles Brooke. The fort is still well maintained after 150 years. I believe it was recently been given a fresh coat of paint.
The fort is mainly made of timber and bamboo. Fort Emma was also the site of the last serious challenge to Brooke rule in Sarawak.

I notice all the windows and ventilation gaps in this fort are fortified with steel grills. The fort seems to be closed to the public and one can only admire it from the outside.

So this is Ford Emma.. looks like a house to me.. good to know they maintain the structure of it for history sake..
seems to be maintained quite well despite being constructed long time ago
i know so less about the bruke rule. great that you shared this and that they preserved the place.
