There is an eye catching "anchored" boat on the beachfront of the Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort.
It was originally a Vietnamese refugee boat which landed right on this shore with 167 adults and children in May 1980. This historic vessel was purchased by the Hotel and the money was donated to the United Nations Vietnamese Refugee Fund.
The salvaged boat was converted into a bar. It is now a place where hotel guests can enjoy a wide variety of drinks and cocktails while admiring the views of South China Sea.

something different.. the tourists will like it.. but hot or not?
wah so unique.. i love unique restaurants...on an unused train, airplane, boat etc. No chance yet.
I was there when that exact boat landed. I was a 7-year-old kid spending the day at the Hyatt swimming pool with my sister and a family friend. My memory is hazy at best, but I remembered seeing the boat people sitting on the beach near the boat, looking very hungry and exhausted...most appeared lost and confused. My most distinct memory was of a lady who was walking amongst the people, crying and wailing, like she was looking for someone.
Back then I was too young and dumb to understand what was going on. Thinking back now, it fills me with great sadness.
