Betong

Betong is a small town some 250km away from Sibu. Recently, I visited this place for the very first time.

The town is much bigger than I expected. The old wooden shop houses and the new concrete buildings seems to blend in nicely. I noticed a number of nice looking inns and hotels here and feel tempted to stay here in the first place after a long tiring drive.

This is the biggest supermarket here, Everrise. In fact I'm quite surprise to see their presence here.

The rubber tree replica in the heart of the town. Rubber tree seems to be the symbol/mascot for this town.

The clock tower with intricate design at its base. Lesung model is also incorporated to the design of this unique clock tower.

Welcoming signboard by Betong District Council in 2000. Iban warrior's shields are used as decoration.

Jungle Product Market is a great place to search for cheap and diversified local fruits and vegetables.

The town seems to get a new face lift with more pleasant walkway for pedestrian

The town bus station

Venture a bit further from the town, one will come across the town's small recreation park and beautiful flowers

We stumbled upon Betong Jamek and Betong Distric Council Office while searching for Fort Lily.

I always got the impression that Sarawak is a vast land of jungle except Kuching, Miri, Bintulu and etc. Your blog has educated me...
