It has an interesting label which depicted a happy Franciscan friar holding a mug of beer while his other hand is seen rubbing the belly.
The beer is brewed in strict accordance to the Purity Law which was established in 1516 by Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria, the oldest foodstuff regulation still in effect today. The law stated that beer can only be brewed from malt, hops and water.
Its main ingredients are malt, hops, yeast and water. Its alcohol content remained at 5%, just like any normal beer in the market.
I reckon it has a 1 year shelf life based on its expiry date. In its website, there is also an instruction on how to pour this beer correctly to a glass. Now, that is something I don't get to see very often.
Franziskaner pours to a murky, caramel brown with a large, fluffy white head. It has the smell of citrus and sweet malt. When drinked, it is quite smooth with little carbonation.
Franziskaner is a decent beer and I would definitely fancy a chance to drink it from the tap.
