Panzer Restaurant

Yesterday was my wife birthday, which also coincide with the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. As we need to have lunch and dinner on that day at my mother in law as well as my parents house respectively, we decided to celebrate her birthday on the 7th June instead, a day earlier.

First the present. In the afternoon I went and bought her a piggie doll. The big one, not the small one.

After playing badminton, it's dinner time. We went to Panzer Restaurant, near the bus terminal at Jalan Pahlawan. The restaurant is opposite the bustling Everwin supermarket.

Panzer Restaurant is located on the 1st floor. This is our second visit to this restaurant since its inception some 1 ++ year ago.

These are the stairs up. It is rough as it is basically cement. Should have been tiled. The restaurant is on the left after you reach the 1st floor.

This appear to be Panzer's letter box. Panzer's word is scribbled with a marker on it.

This is how the interior looks like. It is a wifi zone as indicated. So, you can get online here.

It is rather quiet here, there were 2 couples here, including us that night. I been told they will close down their business in July and move to Miri due to bad business here. People here not exactly looking for quality food. People here want cheap and large portion food.

There is a fish tank at the middle of the Restaurant. Only a few species are available for viewing

The table is rather interesting. Transparent glass with fake tree trunk as the stand.

A ship and a pair of oar as decorative on the wall. The ship also feature at the front page of the menu.

The curtain is also interesting. It can be roll up and down with the rope. It resembles the native mat.

We ordered a large watermelon juice to be shared. (RM6)

Mushroom soup as the appetizer (RM4). We prefer the Pizza Hut mushroom better.

My wife ordered a fish and chips (RM16). The portion was not large compare to some other places here but sufficient for a person. The salad also need improvement. The lime hardly got any juice in it. The tartar sauce also need improvement as it was quite plain.

I ordered Chicken stuffed with Cheese (RM14.50). Initially I ordered pork stuffed with cheese but they run out of pork. So, I have to settle down with the chicken instead. Again, the lime hardly had and juice and salad need to be improved. However, the chips portion is more than the fish and chips.

I slice the chicken breast into half and the cheese is flowing out of it. It tastes really nice. The cheese is thick. This taste better than the fish and chips.

Here is my lovely wife. By the way, we married last December.

And myself. I believe this is the first time I post myself in this blog.

Dragon Boat Festival

Today is the Dragon Boat festival celebration, when eating glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves is a tradition. For the Chinese, eating glutinous rice during the dragon boat festival is a tradition of 2, 000 years to mark the death of patriot Qu Yuan, who plunged into Miluo River in a suicide bid.

Inside the rice dumpling, it could be stuffed with either red bean, peanuts, meat, salted egg, mushroom or even sambal belacan (shrimp paste). I personally like the one with meat and sambal belacan.

It requires some skill to wrap the rice dumpling inside the bamboo leaves and tied it with the straw. After been wrapped, it will be boiled. I used to help my mother to wrap when I was a kid but I think I lost the skill long time ago.

The rice dumpling is hard to digest. So, for those with a weak stomach, it is best to eat a little of this delicacies during day time.

50 Ways and Guides to Cope With the Higher Living Cost

With the living cost on the rise, here are some tips and guidelines to help you save. I will say some are pretty extreme. Some of these measures had been implemented by myself for months as I had anticipated this scenario. Well, we still need to eat. So, nothing can be saved there. We still have to go to work, hence, can’t save on transport. There is nothing we can save for the baby or children foods, education and other essentials.

1. Get rid of Astro. Stick with RTM 1, RTM 2, TV 3, NTV 7, TV 8 & TV 9. They are all free

2. No more movies in cinema. Download all movies by bitcomet or utorrent. After all you pay a flat rate for internet service. Make full use of it. You probably need to wait 2-3 months after the movie been released to get a quality pictures from download.

3. If your work place is about 5km from your home, cycle to work instead. Put aside your ego and pride.

4. If you had some land in your house, plant potatoes, fruits, vegetables and etc.

5. Get rid of incandescent light and replace with energy saving light. Better still, change all light to LED light. Low power consumption and longer endurance. Unfortunately, LED light is nowhere to be seen here. You can find it in E-bay.

6. Get an electric motorcycle. It is environmental friendly too. Unfortunately, I hardly see this type of motorcycle around. Last time around, it is sold around RM3-4k.

7. Use motorcycle to work. Free parking, no road tax, lower fuel consumption, cheaper spare parts, lower maintenance cost and easy to maneuver in traffic jam.

8. Get a hybrid car. Again, this car is nowhere to be seen in this country.

9. Service your vehicle by yourself (after the warranty period is over). Review the maintenance manual and do it yourself. It is actually not that hard.

10. Always check and replace vehicle’s air cleaner/filter and fuel filter. This will ensure it is not choked and save on fuel consumption.

11. Buy engine oil, gasket, air cleaner, fuel filter (not from the authorized service centre as they tend to sell it more expensive) and service the vehicle yourself. Make sure the spare is not imitation.

12. Keep the tires of the vehicles properly inflated. Follow the manual specification.

13. Release the acceleration pedal and let the car momentum to carry the car, as appropriate.

14. Reduce visit to hair saloon. Leave your hair as long as possible. If possible, trim it yourself. Stop dying the hair. It damage the hair in long run and it cost more now!

15. Pay all the credit card bills on time. No more outstanding or there will be interest.

16. Trace and document all your spending and review each month on items you can save.

17. Clean air conditioned air filter regularly. Choked filter means extra load for the air condition unit. If possible, avoid air condition. Opt for fan

18. Cancel the insurance policy. Do this at your own risk but this should able to shed a few hundreds a month.

19. Stay healthy and this will reduce your chances to visit doctor and save on medical bill.

20. When eating out, don’t order drinks. Just order food.

21. Bring drinks or water from home when go to work or eating out.

22. No more junk food. Goodbye Mr. Potato, Pringles and etc.

23. No more supper.

24. Bring food to work. Hence, avoid eating out.

25. Walk as practicable as possible, if the distance is not too far.

26. Try to supplement your income via blogging or PTC (Paid to click) program. I have a few PTC links here. Have a look and participate. I had been paid before! You can even sale your thing in e-bay or lelong.com.my

27. Use quality power supply for your computer for better efficiency and reduce power wastage.

28. Get quality/branded items such as watches, shoes, DVD player and etc. It might cost a bit more but it will have a better life span. Remember, cheap things are not good things.

29. Stop buying clothes unless you really need one

30. Stop the habits of changing mobile phones. Just use the existing one until it breaks down.

31. Drive according to the speed limit and abide the law. You don’t want to be slapped with RM300 summon or pay Kopi “O” (bribe the police)

32. Use public transport. Well, public transport is almost non-existence in some town/city. Even our capital city is nowhere near the standard of London Underground, Paris Metro or Singapore MRT.

33. Minimize traveling as much as possible. Hotel, food and transportation all increased.

34. For mothers who just gave birth, breast feed the babies. Milk is expensive now

35. Stop smoking

36. Stop going to the pubs for booze/beers

37. Stay at home more often. If going out, cycle if possible. You get the exercise and protect the environment.

38. No more fine dining, fancy restaurant or fast food restaurant. Eat at hawker stall or kopitiam.

39. Wear no underwear when at home (if you living alone or with your spouse only). Minimize the laundry and water.

40. No more entertainment or fashion magazine.

41. Take part in some competitions, lucky draw or contest. You might be the lucky one.

42. Swindle Company’s money, if possible. Keep it under wrap.

43. Monitor the content in your fridge and freezer. Make sure there is no wastage and everything is well utilized. Usually there is a lot items left abandoned there until they are no longer usable.

44. Collect all the coins and use it to the fullest. Usually people tend to toss the coins around. You be surprised how much coins you have.

45. Stop donating. This might sound harsh but we are living in a desperate time.

46. Cancel health club or gym membership. There are cheaper way to stay fit. Walk and cycle.

47. Stop sending children to tuition centre. Teach them at home.

48. Stop buying newspaper. Just go to the newspaper’s website for the latest news

49. Store your valuables properly. Crime rate is expected to rise. Losing valuables or wallet means you losing money as well.

50. Change of Government?

My Transformers and MASK Collection

As it is still Gawai Holiday, it is my second day doing some tidying and cleaning around the house. Since the day before I cleaned my computer and the surrounding areas, it is time to clean the boxes and packaging of my precious collection, the transformers and MASK toys. Some of these toys are from my own collection, bought when I was just a kid back in 1987-1989 (Mostly MASK toys). The transformers I get mainly through ebay since 2004 until 2008.

Here is basically where I store all the toys. All these boxes are sturdy. I would not pick a weak box which will deformed easily when knocked and etc. It the box is crushed, the toy inside will likely crush as well. The boxes need to be wiped to get rid of the dust and spider webs. The same goes to the area adjacent to it.

Here is my full collection of Transformers Armada (Japanese called in Transformers Micron Legend). As you can see, there are all from Takara.

This is a closed up of the Autobots from the Armada series. I have Optimus Prime, Jetfire, Overload and Hot Shot. Optimus Prime, Jetfire and Overload can combined for added firepower.

This is a closed up on the Decepticons from the Armada series. I have Galvatron, Starscream, Tidal Wave (Shockfleet), Demolisher and Cylonus (Sandstorm). Galvatron and Tidal Wave can combined for additional firepower.

Transformers Armada series is based on the Minicons. They are the gimmick for this series. Here are some of the Minicons in my disposal. All are from Hasbro

Next is the Transformers Energon Series (Japanese called it Transformers Superlink). I believe I had the most Transformers toys for this series. I had a mixture of Takara and Hasbro for this series.

A close up on the Autobots in Transformers Energon. I have Optimus Prime, Wing Saber, Rodimus, Landmine, Wheeljack, Hot Shot, Prowl and Bulkhead. Optimus Prime can powerlink with Wing Saber to form Wing Convoy for added maneuverability and firepower. Rodimus, Wheeljack, Prowl and Hot Shot can powerlink with each other. Bulkhead and Landmine can powerlink with their accessories for more firepower.

A close up on the Decepticons in Transformers Energon. I have Megatron, Shockfleet, Energon Starscream, Starscream, Demolisher, Snowcat, Laserwave and Wideload. Unfortunately, the Decepticons don't have the powerlink ability but they are gifted with greater built in fireblast. I am a bit disappointed that I didn't manage to get Takara SD-20, General Galvatron. It is rare and expensive. Otherwise, I would have complete set by Takara for the Unicron Trilogy.

The last of the Unicron Trilogy is Transformers Cybertron (Japanese rename it Transformers Galaxy Force). The gimmick is basically the cyber key. Again, I have all the toys in this series from Takara.

Close up view of the Autobots for Transformers Cybertron series. I have Galaxy Convoy (Optimus Prime), Ligerjack and Sonic Bomber (Wing Saber). Both Ligerjack and Sonic Bomber can combine with Galaxy Convoy for more strength and speed.

Close up view on the Decepticons for Transformers Cybertron Series. I just have Master Galvatron and Flame Convoy (Scourge). Not many Decepticons caught my attention for this series.

The last in my Cybertron series is Excellion. He is basically Hot Shot, repainted with red and yellow with some fire stripes. Look cooler this way!

I only have one Transformers from the G1 group, Rodimus Prime. This is a commemorative series by Hasbro. Rodimus Prime is my favourite character for G1 series.

Here is my boxed collection of both MASK and VENOM. Note that Thunder Hawk and Switchblade is MISB (Mint in Sealed Box). A mix of European and US boxes are in my collection. I could have more of this original boxes but unfortunately my father threw it away while I was studying in England as he did not realize the value of these boxes in the market.

A close up view on MASK boxes. There is Thunder Hawk, Firefly, Firecracker, Goliath, Gator and Volcano.

A close up view of VENOM boxes. There are Switchblade, Buzzard, Iguana and Pirahna. I also happen to have Pit Stop Catapult but it is not shown here.

The rest of my collection are store in a cabinet. There are Rhino, Outlaw, Jackhammer, Manta, Vampire, Condor, Hurricane, Slingshot, Raven, Meteor and Stinger. Those who are familiar with MASK cartoon should know I have a complete unit for the Season 1 (with exception of Boulder Hill). I don't have the complete unit for the racing series although I am tempted. The racing series suck big time though. That is why I didn't go all the way.

I will give a more detailed description and photos for each units mentioned above in my future post. I hope some of the readers here are a big fan of Transformers and MASK cartoon back in the 1980s.

Computer Cleaning and Changing CPU Cooler Guide

It's a long holiday here in Sarawak due to the Gawai celebration. Many who work here are taking this advantage to go travelling, shopping and etc as it is public holiday from 1-3 June. I on the other side decide to do some home improvement and cleaning around my house. I clean the air condition housing and filters. I also clean the computer table and the surrounding areas.

The last time I clean my computer and change the CPU cooler was back in December 2007, which is about 6 months now. I can guarantee it is pretty dirty inside there as I will show later. My computer has the following cooling properties:

- 120mm front fan for cooling the hard drive.
- 120mm side fan for cooling the graphic card
- 80mm side fan vent for cooling the CPU (i did not install a fan here)
- 120mm rear fan to exhaust hot air

I did not install a 80mm side fan as I find out it somehow increase the motherboard temperature and do not assist in the cooling of the CPU. I guess it got something to do with the airflow dynamic inside the casing. The side fan for graphic card is very important. Without it, my graphic card run up to 70 degrees Celsius, compare with 54 degrees Celsius with the fan operational

Take a look at the rear fan honeycomb web. It is now partially been clogged with dust particle. This need to be cleaned and cleared as it will restrict the exhaust air flow in the near future. The same scenario also found at the front and side fan mesh.

All the cooling fans are pretty dirty with this tough stain after just 6 months. The dirt particle will affect the fan blade aerodynamic and cause drag if left at it is. Hence, reduce the life span of the fan bearing and the fan itself.

The tools needed are compressed air, brush, alcohol, cotton bud, portable mini vacuum (powered by AA batteries and not the USB type) and screwdriver (flat and Philips head)

Compressed air has a straw nozzle where it can be attached to the main nozzle to blow dust at delicate area

The mini vacuum has different type of nozzles which are exchangeable to deal with different situation, be it a wide area or narrow area.

Here is the side view of my computer with all the side panels removed. Use the compressed air or brush to blow the dust starting from top to bottom. The dust shall fall to the base of the casing. Us the vacuum to suck the dust from the base. All cooling fans should be dismantled and cleaned with slightly moisture cloth. The cooling fans hub also prone to be dusty and should be cleaned when the cooling fans had been dismantled.

Anyway, as a precaution, before most of this work been carried out, it might be wise to ground yourself as to avoid electrostatic discharge and damage the computer components. You can use anti static wrist strap or simply touching the home water outlet metal hydrant for a while.

After this, I removed the Intel stock cooler from the socket 775 motherboard. See how dusty the cooling fan blade in just 6 months

Now, removing the stock cooler fan reveal the dusty heatsink. Most of the dust trapped between the fins. If left long enough without proper cleaning, imagine the heatsink will be clogged and heat dissipation might be affected.

Removing the CPU cooler will left behind the residue of the previous thermal paste. For the record, I previously used Arctic Cooling MX-2 thermal paste for the stock cooler. This residue should be removed and cleaned and apply with a fresh thermal paste. Note that I am changing the CPU cooler this time with Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro as the Intel stock cooler will be cleaned.

Use the cotton bud and dip it into the alcohol. Use the cotton bud to clean the residue in a circular motion. Arctic Cooling MX-2 is easy to be removed compared to MX-1 and the stock thermal paste.

The CPU should be clean as shown after a few round of cleaning. One should able to see the CPU specification once it is cleaned. For better result, use a cloth, normally the one used to clean the spectacles to give a good wipe after all the cleaning. That cloth should able to absorb the remaining thermal paste.

Once, the CPU is cleaned, thermal paste (I am using Arctic Cooling MX-2) and a card should be on standby. Expired credit card will do but I am using a card supplied by Cooler Master when I purchased Cooler Master Nano Fusion some time ago.

Press a little thermal paste from the tube onto the CPU. Oooops! I put too much accidentally. A little will do as we just need a thin layer on it.

Spread the thermal paste evenly using the card. Arctic Cooling MX-2 is smooth and easy to apply. Some thermal paste is hard to apply and spread evenly. So always make sure you get the quality thermal paste to make your life easier. Excess thermal paste should be removed.

Attach the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro without the cooling fan first. Here, I attached the fan power plug before I install the heatsink. Installation of the heatsink is similar as with the Intel stock cooler The heatsink is quite huge.

Align the fan in a way that the sticker is not upside down. Fix the fan hook on one side and attach the fan hook on the other side to mount the fan to the cooler. Make sure all cables inside the computer case clear from the fan. A high end case should allow better cable management than what I have here. Do some cable management with cable ties if condition allow you to do so.

Fire up the computer and it works wonderfully. Here are some test result from my computer.

Motherboard: Asus P5VD2-X
CPU: Intel Pentium 4, 2666MHz
RAM: 1GB Apacer
GPU: Asus EN8500GT Silent magic
Hard disk: Seagate 250GB, Western Digital 320GB
Power Supply: Sunbeamtech Nuuo Series 550W

Ambient temperature: 25 degree Celsius
(all temperature readings in degree Celcius)
Motherboard :39 (42-43 on hot day)
CPU: 42 (43-45 on hot day)
GPU: 54 (57-58 on hot day)
Seagate 250GB: 33 (36-38 on hot day)
Western Digital 320GB: 34 (36-39 on hot day)
Power supply internal temperature: 43 (46-48 on hot day)

As I am living in tropical climate and the reading taken now is during raining time where temperature is cooler.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro do make a difference in the overall system temperature. The CPU remains well below 50 degrees and the rpm is almost constant at 1288rpm. Compare to the stock cooler, the CPU temperature fluctuate and sometime went above 50 degrees. The rpm is around 1400-2000++rpm. Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro also manage to bring down the motherboard temperature by 1-3 degrees compare when I am using the stock cooler, which is quite impressive.

It will be a good think to open your computer once in a while to have a look the condition inside and clean it. Good Luck and Happy Cleaning!
