Ramadan Bazaar @ Jalan Bandong

Another Ramadan Bazaar I visited recently is the one at Jalan Bandong, roughly about 4km from Sibu town

The bazaar here is at a much smaller scale with stalls been set up on both side of Bandong Road. There are hardly any parking space available here and the road can appear to be very narrow when vehicles been parked indiscriminately beside the road.

There are less variety of food here but I heard the food sold here are slightly cheaper than the one at Sibu Town Square

It's fasting month again for the Muslims and Ramadan Bazaars also made their appearance around the town.

The Ramadan bazaar at Sibu Town Square Phase 2 is probably the best place for food hunting in the town.

There is definitely some improvement at this site now. The passageway now is tar sealed and cemented for a more comfortable walk around here.

The bazaar here has more food variety compare to the other bazaars in the town. There are a few new faces around the bazaar this time around. Some old faces also had decided not to trade here this year.

The BBQ section has a few selections like chicken, fishes, otak-otak and satay

There are only a handful of stalls selling Kacang Putih this time around and the preparation method also been improved with the addition of fragrance leaves

There is one stall here that caught my attention for its creativity, The Abby Abadi Stall

The owner of this stall gave some fancy names to the dishes like Flying Chicken, Japanese Slippers, The Power of Love and etc.

Sibu Cherry Blossom 2009

The cherry blossom trees along the Brooke Drive bloom almost annually. Last year they had full bloom in June. Somehow this year those trees bloom a bit later, somewhere in late August.

I find last year bloom are more beautiful than this year. Most of the cherry blossom here are pink and white in colour

Some close up photos of the cherry blossom. It might not as beautiful as the one in Japan or Europe but the local folks should learn to appreciate it.

Unfortunately, the flowers don't stay for long and the tree start to shed their flowers

I just wish the flower will hang around for a longer period for me to enjoy

Hii Tiong Huat Strikes Back

Self-styled local social activist, Hii Tiong Huat got himself into trouble with the police again. It was reported that Hii had been sitting atop his van which was parked on the pedestrian walkway at Sibu Gateway. I believe Hii was arrested and the van been confiscated. I saw the van at the police station on Sunday.

The banners which Hii attached to both sides of his van express his disappointment on the local politicians/government who fail to address the plight of Sibu folks:

1. The shallow Rejang River had not been dredged and causing constant flood to Sibu
2. Inappropriate design of the Lebaan Bridge which cause larger vessels (such as the regular Selatan Makmur, Sang Thai Timber and etc) unable to navigate to Sibu port.
3. Higher cost of living due to additional transportation cost (as most items unable to be brought directly to Sibu via larger vessels due to the Lebaan Bridge)
   

Hii is a daring man and many believe he is speaking on behalf of the people. However, his conventional methods always land him in a hot soup. I believe it is time he armed himself with a digital camera and a computer to spread his words via blog.

Today the fuel price increased again. Will Hii make another move?
