Taiping Lake Garden

Taiping Lake Garden is the first public garden established in 1880 during the British rule in Malaya. It was formerly an abandoned tin mine donated by Chung Thye Phin as a recreation park for public use.

The garden was developed by Charles Compton Reade who also happen to be the planning for the garden town in Kuala Lumpur.

The 64 hectares site was cherished for its beauty until today. There are 10 scenic lakes and ponds around the gardens. The golden rain trees (angsana) planted along the pathway is a sight to behold and it still stood firm after more than a century.

Been here, I start to understand why the locals here are against the proposed development of the area last year, especially in way of the angsana trees.

This lake is the pride of the locals here and there are always people jogging here in the early morning and evening.

It will take approximately 1 hour to fully appreciate every corner of this magnificent garden. I came across monkeys, monitor lizard as well as tortoise around the lake.

I also came across this old looking water fountain with English influence design. It must had been installed here right from the beginning.

The Lake Garden is without a doubt the best part of Taiping. It represents the town and its people. With its lush greenery surrounding and calm lake, it is a perfect place to unwind and reflect on life itself.
