Raya Decoration 2012 @ The Gardens Mall

The Raya Decoration at The Gardens Mall this year kind of digress from the theme most shopping malls adopted in the Klang Valley. Whereas most shopping malls around here are using kampung and bazaar theme, The Gardens Mall is using songket as their main theme.

The origins of the songket is rather sketchy but it is most likely that songket weaving was brought to Peninsular Malaysia through intermarriages between royal families. This was a common occurence in the 15th century for sealing strategic alliances.

For a long period of time, the traditional weavers lived in a world very close to nature. In the rural villages they see things with discerning eyes, capture the intricate design of nature and incorporate them as motifs and paterns in their creative works. As a result, most of the motifs in songket are designed and named after the flora and fauna of their environment or the animal kingdom.

I truly believe this is one of the best deco around this year. It offers contemporary ambient with remix of old and new concept at the best.
