Sri Aman Monument

While walking around Sri Aman town, I came across a square with a monument at the centre of it. There is no official name for this structure and for the sake of this post, I decided to call it the Sri Aman Monument.

There is a tree sitting on top of this monument and I was left to wonder what does it represents. There is no information board nearby to explain in details regarding this monument. However, the monument is surrounded with self explanatory engraving.

This crocodile represents the most fearsome crocodile in Sri Aman which was named Bujang Senang. For many years, Bujang Senang had terrorized the Batang Lupar River, killing many people in the process. It was rumored that Bujang Senang is about 20 feet long with a white strip at his back and lived for almost 50 years. He finally met his fate in 1992.

The other engraving on the monument depict the traditional economic activities and the culture of all the ethnic groups who live in Sri Aman.
