Worsening Haze @ Sibu

Yesterday haze was probably the worst haze Sibu had experience for the last 2 weeks

It seems that the haze was heavier on the Rejang River and Igan River side. My theory holds some truth as the haze got heavier around the town by 3pm when some wind blowed steadily in that direction and causing the town to experience a denser haze.

This is how the town looks like after 3pm. I have no idea how much is the API but it sure did not look good or healthy

oh u called it API? It's known as PSI in Singapore as an indicator for air pollution. I dunno the PSI now but the air is bad and it's hazy. A few days ago, the highest was 60 PSI. Seems like Sibu is worse.

I experienced the worst hazy days more than 10yrs ago in Singapore. It was so bad that the vision was masked by a thick layer of haze within metres away. The authority said the pollution was as bad as inhaling 20 2nd hand cigarette a day. :S

Take care!

The haze problem is exaggerated by el-nino and in addition the "tidak apa", don't care attitude of the slash-and-burn farmers and some government official including a neighboring forest minister who even said not his responsibility until flights are grounded :(

I hope the haze problem will end soon.

I think the API is the highest in the country, but not yet reach the same height as in 1997.

I took these photos when the API was probably at its peak at 250++. I don't think we will ever get a repeat of the 1997 haze where the API was well above the chart at 800++

Luckily no haze in Guilin, China when I was there. Now back to a haze filled Malaysia! Sigh...
