Bintulu town is the site where the country's first and oldest state legislative assembly meeting was held in 8th September 1867. A monument had been erected at the exact site to commemorate the historic event

It gathered 5 British officers and 16 local chiefs of various race. This historical event was convened by Charles Brooke, the second Rajah of Sarawak.

The Bristish officers were James B. Crookshank, William H. Rodway, Alfred R. Gouhton, Thomas S.C. Chapman and James H. Nelson. Locals recorded attending the meeting were Pengiran Matusin (Datuk Bandar), Pengiran Matahir, Pengiran Abu Bakar, Abang Matassan, Tuan Khatib, Awang Dulla, Mani, Abang Ain, Abang Tek, Abang Apong, Abang Leman, Abang Man, Abang Galau, Abang Ali and Abang Usup.

Initially, only a memorial stone was erected in 1967 to mark the centennial of the historical meeting.

The site had been enhanced with five facet clock tower and a fountain. A dual carriageway serving as the nerveline into Bintulu town and passing this monument is also named Abang Galau Highways in honour of one of the founder council members.

There is a famous seafood restaurant just beside this monument, Popular Seafood Restaurant which is usually crowded.

Chang Yee,

I went to Bintulu once many years ago but didn't have chance to explore due to work. Nice to learn about Bintulu from your post ;) Btw, I saw 2 green bottles placed at the memorial stone's foot (2nd photo). It is some sort of offering and to who?
