Flood at Sungai Bidut

It was raining heavily in the early morning on Good Friday. Although most areas in Sibu town was spared from any serious flood (thank God), the situation was not the same across the Rejang River bank at Sungai Bidut.

The flash flood was caused by a combination of high tide and the heavy downpour that cause the shallow Rejang River to overflow

Some of the shipyards at Sungai Bidut were badly affected by the flood and most of the workers did not turn out to work on that day. Even thought it was a public holiday here on Good Friday, the shipyards here still operate normally.

Some of the roads at the areas were also flooded. I guess flood is a common sight now in Sibu. I guess it is just a matter of time now before my home get submerged (my home never got flooded in my 25 years stay here) unless appropriate and effective counter measures been taken by our local authorities.

the govt is doing little to tackle the problem at the source. they jus raise the level of some major arteries/roads so ppl can still move on. a consequence of this is the roads become like dykes creating small ponds encircled by these dykes and creating pockets of floods here n there. before they raised the level of the road, my house as were many areas all over Sibu were never flooded. These so called dykes hinder the natural flow of water. All thanks to the relevant authorities.
