University of Bristol

University of Bristol is where I graduated back in 2000. Some history of the University. University College, Bristol, founded in 1876, was the first institution in the UK to offer places to women to study in higher education on the same footing as men. In 1909 the College combined with the Merchant Venturers' Technical College become the University of Bristol and was granted a Royal Charter.

The university will celebrate its centenary celebration this summer and all alumni are invited to a list of events prepared by the university. The centenary slogan is "Great Past Great Future". I really wish to be there for the centenary celebration. It's been a while now since I left the university in the summer of 2000.

The University motto is written in Latin "Vim Promovet Insitam" which means Learning promotes one's innate power

The University do not have a campus and pretty much spread out across the city of Bristol

The University is very much a part of the City of Bristol. For most Bristolians, the University is the Wills Memorial Building, with its great Gothic tower which dominates the city skyline, standing at the junction of Park Street and Queen's Road. Most shops and banks are only four or five minutes walk from any point on the University precinct

The magnificent Wills Memorial Building is the home for the Faculty of Law and the venue for the convocation ceremony

I spent most of my time in the University at Queen's Building, the premise for the Faculty of Engineering. Here most of my lectures and lab work took place. However, the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science moved to Merchant Venturers' Building, just across the road in 1996.

Me and Sid Gupta before our final year project presentation at Queen's Building lab

With Shahrul Nizam Abdul Aziz (a.k.a Jeff) before the final year project presentation. We were all dressed up for the presentation :)

Just opposite the Queen's Building is the Royal Fort Garden. Back then I usually had my lunch here.

Squirrels can be seen around the Royal Fort Garden. The squirrel was tame and not afraid of human. One can get up close and personal with this amazing creature.

Royal Fort at the garden is the home to Physics Department. I think all my Maths lectures were held here.

The University logo also had changed after I left but the old logo is still used on some formal functions and events.

It's a shame I can't take more photos back then. Digital camera was not widely available those day and most of the photos here are my old photos, taken using the conventional camera. I really had a great time studying at this University and I highly recommend this place for those who still have no idea on where to study. It is a reputable University and a nice environment to study.

The garden was the best, as was the squirrel. So beautiful, so photogenic!
