Jakar

Jakar is a small town about 10km from Sarikei town and about 1 hour drive from Sibu town. Sarawak pepper has been chosen as the mascot for this town. Strangely, there is no pepper farm in vicinity (or maybe I didn't see properly).

Jakar consists of 2-3 row of shophouses. Peking Restaurant is famous for the prawn noodle where big prawns are served.

New shophouses also been constructed adjacent to the old shophouses. Most of the residents here are Foochow.

I was rather surprise to find a police station at such a small place

There is also a small square at the middle of the old shop houses. Mini markets, restaurant, coffee shop, barber and motorcycle repair shops can be found at this town.

Jakar is usually a rest stop for those who had a long drive along the Sibu-Kuching road. I personally had stopped here a few times with my parents on our way to Kuching to dine at the Peking Restaurant

Judging from the photos you took, Jakar seems a laid back town and simple.

I love small town because the people are helpful and hospitable. That is applicable to all the small towns I've been to.
